Answers to the most common questions about treatment, safety, cost, and how Meemo works.
Medical & safety
For most healthy women, HRT is considered safe and is the most effective treatment for menopausal symptoms. The risks — often overstated following a flawed 2002 study — are highly dependent on the type of hormones used, delivery method, your age, and when you begin. Bioidentical, compounded HRT carries a different risk profile than the synthetic hormones studied in older trials. Your Meemo physician will review your personal risk factors before prescribing.
HRT is not appropriate for everyone. Absolute contraindications typically include: current or recent hormone-sensitive cancers, unexplained vaginal bleeding, active thromboembolic disease, active liver disease, and certain medications. Your physician will screen your intake carefully and will not prescribe if contraindications are present.
Bioidentical hormones are molecularly identical to the hormones your body produces naturally. Synthetic hormones are chemically similar but not identical — different molecular structures that bind hormone receptors differently. Many women tolerate bioidentical HRT better, and it can be compounded to precise doses.
No. Most physicians begin HRT based on clinical symptoms alone, especially in women with classic perimenopausal presentations. Labs can be helpful but are not required to begin treatment. Your physician may recommend labs as part of your ongoing protocol.
Treatment
Depending on your plan and symptoms, you may receive bioidentical estradiol, progesterone, tretinoin, niacinamide, azelaic acid, oral minoxidil, and/or spironolactone. All are prescription-grade and compounded to your specific dose.
Most patients report initial improvements in sleep and hot flashes within 2–4 weeks. Meaningful symptom relief across mood, energy, and cognition typically occurs by weeks 6–8. Skin and hair improvements take longer — 3–6 months for visible results.
